Migration from a single server to AWS

A business-critical app moved off one hand-configured server onto reproducible, backed-up infrastructure.

This is a representative example of a project type we take on — a typical situation, approach and scope — not a description of a specific client engagement. Timelines are indicative; yours will depend on the details.

The situation

The whole product runs on one server somebody set up years ago. Nobody is certain how it was configured, backups have never been tested, and deployments are done by hand over SSH.

How we approach it

  • Document what the current server actually does before moving anything.
  • Describe the new environment in Terraform so it can be rebuilt from scratch.
  • Rehearse the migration and the rollback on a copy.
  • Cut over in a planned window with a tested way back.

What gets delivered

  • Infrastructure as code
  • Automated deployments
  • Tested backups and restore procedure
  • Monitoring, alerts and a cost forecast
