The situation

A hardware company needs an app that customers will judge the whole product by. Bluetooth behaves differently on every phone, firmware updates must never brick a device, and readings have to survive hours without a connection.

How we approach it

Go native — Bluetooth, background execution and battery limits are where cross-platform tools hurt most.
Build a device simulator so app work never waits on hardware.
Make firmware updates resumable and verifiable.
Test on a deliberately unglamorous range of real phones.
